Jane Austen

I’m having tasty Oishi tea. My cup is one of a dozen I bought on an impulse in a ceramics fair almost a decade ago.  Part of its base is fractured, but the pack rat in me epoxied it back, forming a pencil line. Actually I never used it until it broke during a recent move.

I’m feeling half nostalgic, half in tune with the present. Natalie Cole’s live Unforgettable last Monday made me miss my father. Today I am bracing for a day-long faculty meeting.

On my mind are work deadlines and online time over the weekend. There is a huge file waiting for me in the office today. On October 30th is Talk Like Jane Austen Day. It should be pleasant reviewing psychological relevance of her works while attempting regency language in post-modern speech for a day.  Here is a little peek into the mind of one of England’s greatest women writers –

If any one faculty of our nature may be called more wonderful than the rest, I do think it is memory. There seems something more speakingly incomprehensible in the powers, the failures, the inequalities of memory, than in any other of our intelligences.

The memory is sometimes so retentive, so serviceable, so obedient; at others, so bewildered and so weak; and at others again, so tyrannic, so beyond control! We are, to be sure, a miracle every way; but our powers of recollecting and of forgetting do seem peculiarly past finding out.

Our Weekend Memoirs: Mabuhay Restaurant
Scroll down for Sunday Stealing

A cousin and I went shopping in Pratunam this past weekend. There is a Filipino restaurant there where we had lunch.

I was thinking of fall colors. Look at that Bopis. I wonder what’s that –

This one I know though: beef caldereta. At home I remember there’s only one aunt who can cook caldereta well. The one who owns a carenderia, lol…

Our sinigang… Operation Tangigi. Slurp!

This buko salad is obviously imported. The ice cream taste is very pinoy.

Cousin Vi took home the rest of the sinigang and I took care of the caldereta. I still have some leftover in my fridge right now. (Along with the rest of the food I can’t consume duh) I’ll go heat the bahaw.

Sunday Stealing: The Presuppose You’re Living in New England Meme

Today we ripped this meme of a blogger known as Wayfarer at Wayfarer’s Journal. Wayfarer doesn’t explain if he wrote it or stole it. But if he did, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft’s thieves might take some time. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

W.B. Yeats

Fuji tea

I’m having Japanese black tea with milk. It is served with a lunch set at Fuji restaurant. The ceramic cup is so tiny you hold it with virtually just the tip of your thumb and index finger. I call it an Endimion fairy size.

I’m feeling charmed.

On my mind are things Hazel. As the very first post on this new blog I thought I’d share something theme – reflective, in merry ambling fashion: the first stanza of W.B. Yeats’  “The Song of Wandering Aengus”

I went out to the hazel wood, Because a fire was in my head, And cut and peeled a hazel wand, And hooked a berry to a thread; And when white moths were on the wing, And moth-like stars were flickering out, I dropped the berry in a stream, And caught a little silver trout.
